What makes gauge opinion different?

We are the first organization to carry out representative national opinion polls by text message.

How do you make sure the polls reflect the views of the UK population?

When you register to take part in opinion polls by text, we ask you a few questions about yourself. We use the answers to these questions to make sure that the network has roughly the same make-up as the UK population as a whole. Where there are gaps in out network, we will recruit extra people by telephone. If necessary, we will “weight” the responses to our questions as we analyze the responses.

What if I don’t want to receive any more questions?

No problem. Just log in to the gauge-opinion website and click unsubscribe. We’ll bother you no more.

Will it cost me to send texts to you?

It won’t cost you a penny extra, other than your normal mobile phone text charges to send us your views. What’s more, when you sign up and take part in your first two polls we will donate £1 to charity. We’ll donate a further 10p for every poll after that.

How often will you send me texts?

Once or twice a month. It depends on the issues of the day and what’s happening in the news. We’ll send you a text message survey that may include more than one text message question. We will try not to send you the same question more than once. That would be very boring for you and not very useful for us. If you ever think we are sending you too many messages – or not enough – please let us know.

How do I join and take part in opinion polls by text?

Just click here and answer the questions and follow the instructions. It should only take a few minutes.

Who are Gauge Opinion?

Gauge Opinion Ltd is a UK based company. It was founded by Steven Gauge, who was previously the Chief Executive of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, a national charity dedicated to reducing violent crime. In 2009 he got together with a small team, including a former MORI researcher and a new media expert to develop the Gauge Opinion polling service.

How do I submit my own polls?

You may start posting polls once you have participated in five text polls. These questions will need to be moderated by Gauge Opinion before going live so they may not be posted instantly.
